Plenty of parks say they're pet friendly and mean "pets tolerated." Grass Valley RV Resort actually built for them: two fenced, off-leash dog parks at the edges of the resort where pups can run full speed, and a dedicated dog wash station so a muddy trail day doesn't end up in your rig's shower. Every one of our 148 fully paved sites welcomes pets, and the resort's paved loops make for easy, tick-free morning walks.
House rules are simple and keep the resort pleasant for everyone: dogs stay leashed everywhere outside the dog parks, never left unattended outside your rig, and cleaned up after — waste stations are placed around the loops. Quiet hours run 10 PM to 8 AM, and our long-term community includes a lot of dogs who take them seriously.
Leashed dogs are welcome on the park's forested trail network — miles of shaded, gentle grades through pine and oak that stay comfortable for paws most of the year. (Dogs aren't allowed inside the historic buildings, so plan the Bourn Cottage tour for a non-dog day.)

Both historic downtowns are genuinely dog-welcoming: water bowls outside shops, and plenty of restaurant patios where well-behaved dogs can join you. Evening strolls under Nevada City's string lights are a favorite with four-legged guests.

Many South Yuba beaches allow leashed dogs, and water-loving pups adore it. Two cautions: summer currents can be stronger than they look, and river rocks get hot by midday — go in the morning and bring shade and water for your dog.
A few local realities worth knowing. Summer afternoons in the foothills regularly reach the 90s — walk early, use the shaded dog parks midday, and check pavement temperature with the back of your hand. Dry-season grasses carry foxtails, so give paws and ears a quick check after off-trail romps (the dog wash station makes this easy). And this is wildlife country: deer wander near the resort at dawn and dusk, which is the other good reason for the leash rule.
