How to Play Bocce
Start each round (called a 'frame') by tossing the small target ball — the pallino — down the court. Teams of one to four players then take turns rolling the larger bocce balls, trying to land closest to the pallino. The team farther away always rolls next, until both teams have thrown all four of their balls.
Scoring: only one team scores per frame — one point for every ball closer to the pallino than the opponent's best ball, with a touching ball ('baci' or kiss) often celebrated loudly. First team to 12 or 13 points wins, depending on house rules. Knocking opponents' balls away or moving the pallino with your roll is completely legal — and half the fun.
Etiquette: measure close calls with a tape or a stick rather than an argument, stay behind the foul line when rolling, and let the winning team of each frame toss the next pallino.

Games run fifteen to thirty minutes, drinks in hand are traditional, and trash talk is encouraged within reason — bocce has been a campground classic for generations for a reason.
The court is a natural social magnet: start a game and you'll usually have spectators, then challengers, within minutes. During rallies it hosts some seriously spirited tournaments.
